The province of Groningen has one of the country’s highest concentrations of chemistry companies. By no means everyone is aware that the chemistry sector in the province of Groningen is an extremely important driving force behind the regional and even the national economy. By way of example, a strongly salt-related cluster of chemistry companies has developed in Delfzijl in response to the huge stocks of rock salt and natural gas.

The following companies have set up shop at Chemie Park Delfzijl: Akzo Nobel (four companies), Delamine, Methanor, Kemax, Delesto, Teijin Twaron, Noveon and Brunner Mond. These companies are linked together like a chain. Remnant substances from the one plant are used by the other for its production process. It is not for nothing that the park is known as ‘a chain of industry’.
