Whether you are looking for a stately canal side house or feel more at home in a modern office unit: there is plenty to choose from in the city and province of Groningen.

In common with all of the Netherlands' major cities there is still a degree of under-occupation in offices and shop premises. And that makes them relatively inexpensive just now. There is a wide range of real estate on offer: new buildings, existing properties, large and small surface areas. But there is still a certain amount of dynamism in this market. Also, the average selling price is way under the national average in the Netherlands. In 2003 the price was 29 euros per square metre of industrial space in Groningen as compared to 73 in the rest of the Netherlands. And 87 as compared to 120 euros per square metre of office space.

During the next few years the Europapark will become the city of Groningen’s most important economic driving force. A new urban development has been underway since 2003, located barely a kilometre from the city centre. The 45 hectare area comprises four sections. The image will soon be defined by the much talked-about Euroborg, which will be surrounded by a sizeable office park, residential district De Linie and the planned new Europapark train station www.europapark.nl
